Entries are classified by type. The codes for these types are:

B Bruce fief: an addition to the text for Yorkshire made after 1113
C Customs: the legal and financial customs of a county or borough
E a rural manor, the most common type of entry
F a fief heading
I index of landowners in each county
L the rubric of a separate section of the text, such as the List of Landholders at the beginning of each county
U an urban entry described in a separate section for boroughs
