Lengthy though it is, this bibliography only creams the literature on the subject and almost totally ignores local studies. The Bibliography of Domesday Book, edited by David R. Bates (1986) fills this gap for publications down to about 1984. In addition, the invaluable Royal Historical Society bibliography on CD ROM (Oxford, 1998), itemises all publications on British and Irish history of any consequence published prior to 1993. Annual updates are provided by the Annual bibliography of British and Irish history (Oxford, 1993-), currently edited by Austin Gee.
