warland

Latin, warlanda.

Warland was land assessed for the
public obligations of military service, taxation, and other services, as opposed to the exempt inland. Warland was normally the land of the peasants, as distinct from the lord's demesne land, or home farm.

For more detail, see Rosamond Faith, The English peasantry and the growth of lordship (1997).
