editions of Domesday Book
There have been many translations of Domesday Book, mostly done on a county-by-county basis. The three most accessible are those in the volumes of the Victoria County History (1898-), and the recent Phillimore (1972-86) and Alecto editions (1985-1992), edited by John Morris and Ann Williams respectively; the Alecto edition is too expensive for most pockets but a single-volume translation was issued by Penguin in 2002, with a paperback version following in 2003. The Alecto edition is available in low- and high-resolution versions on DVD; Phillimore's Great Domesday on CD-ROM is currently available for pre-order from the The History Press; but the entire text of the Phillimore edition is freely available online as part of the published AHRC project data.
