Caption bars

The Caption bar of the active window will be highlighted; other caption bars will be dimmed. Captions bars provide information about selections, hits and records, in the following order:

Selections: the number of currently selected records

Hits: the position of the current selection in the total number of hits. If several records are selected, the position of the last is given

Records: the position of the current selection in the total number of records. If several records are selected, the position of the last is given.

Each type of window displays data from its own source table, sorted in the underlying order of that table. The text, facsimile, and Navigator windows reflect the order of the entries in Great Domesday; the map view and the Places table are sorted by the alphabetical order of place-names. Other tables have other sequences. Moreover, one entry in Domesday Book may have more than one image, or several places, attached to it, accentuating differences in the record numbers visible in different windows.

Hence record numbers for the same hit may be very different. A search for Zeals - the last record in the Places table - would display record 2937 in the text and Navigator windows, but 3053 in the facsimile window and 20568 in the Place forms table and on the map.
