basic searching
Ctrl + S will produce the Search form for searching the translation. The Search form may also be opened from the Search menu or by right-clicking in the Searches window
For the simplest search, type a word in the Search for box then click OK. Searches are identified in the Search window by their descriptions. You may enter your own in the Description box; if you leave this blank, the search term or terms will be taken as the description.
A new search automatically becomes the current search. This may be changed by deselecting the Make this search current box on the Search form.
The Breakdown button on the Search form will parse search terms and their properties; this can provide a useful check on the syntax if the search is complex.
The Check Results button produces a breakdown of the hits and entries for each word retrieved by the search, and their cumulative totals. If the search involves more than one word (eg, a phrase, Boolean, or wildcard search), the first line of the breakdown records the total number of separate words (in brackets) as well as the total number of hits and entries retrieved. Each word retrieved is then listed with the following information:
Properties records any property specified for that search element
Occurs the number of times the element occurs globally
Hits the cumulative number of hits on words in a phrase
Entries the cumulative number of entries for words in a phrase.
The number of occurrences and hits will be identical for each term unless it is part of a phrase.
The Limit by tab allows the search to be restricted to particular circuits, counties, or Type of Text. Searches on Type of Text are advanced searches using text coding and properties. The particular codes specified there are codes for entries, editorial codes and codes for manorial statistics.
The Options tab allows you to specify how the software deals with unlimited spans.
