textbooks on Domesday Book

Useful textbooks which survey most aspects of the text and its statistics are: Adolphus Ballard, The Domesday inquest (1906); R.W. Finn, An introduction to Domesday Book (1963); and R. Welldon Finn, Domesday Book: a guide (1973). Although it would be insulting to describe H.C. Darby, Domesday England (1977), as a textbook, it does in fact provide an guide to much of the material in Domesday Book and an illuminating analysis of the problems of interpreting this material.
